Letting Go of Stuff We Love - Me In Order

Video Transcript:

Good morning. So before I head out today, I just wanted to shoot this quick video because I thought it might be beneficial for the Me In Order community.

What I want to talk about today is letting go of things that have been in our life for some time and now it’s just time to part ways. Today for me, that is this old blue blanket.

So this blanket has been in my family for – since I was little really and at this point, it’s coming apart. The batting is coming out. The batting is lumped together in some places and it has just had it. So it’s time to part ways with it. But it’s really hard because this is something that has been around for me forever.

It has been around since I was a little kid. I used it when I was watching the Saturday morning cartoons, snuggled up with it. My dog that I was so in love with growing up used to sleep on it when I went away for school.

Then later on, my dad even used it during chemo treatments to snuggle up with. So there’s a lot of history with this thing and – but now it’s just used up. It’s just not useful anymore and so what I wanted to come to you with today was how do we do it. How do we let go of things that have such sentimental value to us?

So let’s talk about that. Let’s make it real. Let’s see how we can do that and so I thought of a few things and I just wanted to share them with you today.

So tips on parting ways with things. The first thing is take a picture of it. It’s probably the most simplest thing to do these days with our smartphones. You can remember it by having a photograph of it. Maybe you can even keep that photograph with other photographs that show it and you can memorialize it that way.

You can also take a video. So believe it or not, this video that I’m taking right now is going to help me let go of this. So it’s another great way to do it.

Another thing that you can do is if it’s cuttable or if you can keep a piece of it, then you can do that. I mean I don’t need to keep this whole blanket as a keepsake. But I can certainly trim a corner off of it and put that in a keepsake box, if I wanted to. I’m probably not.

But if it makes you feel more comfortable letting go of it, you can certainly do that as well. There are so many things you can do. These are just a few tips, probably the most common ones. Then of course the actual letting go of it, I’m not going to be able to let go of this blanket myself.

So I am going to have to have somebody do that for me, whether it’s a family member or even if you hire an expert organizer to come in and help you do this, then that works too. So those are just a few tips on how you can physically go through the process of letting go of something that you know it’s just time to let go of.

So now it’s your turn. I would love to hear maybe some things that you have currently that you need to get rid of and just put that down in the comments. Maybe that will help you let go of it. Just expressing that hey, I’m having trouble letting go of this or maybe it’s something that you’ve recently let go of and you want to share that.

We would love to hear your comments either way, even if it’s just a comment on my silly blue blanket. In any case, I hope you have a great day. Create order. Bring peace and we will talk soon.
