Death in the Family: Let us Help You Get Organized | Me In Order

First and foremost, we are so sorry for your loss. We understand that this is a difficult time for you to go through a death in the family, and we want to do everything we can to alleviate the stress and pain you have been going through.

When a family member, parent, or spouse passes away, you are left behind with a lot of emotions, pain and confusion as to what to do next. Each item that once belonged to your loved one holds so many precious memories and it can be difficult to imagine parting ways with them.

Unfortunately, there is no quick-fix to moving on and dealing with grief and the death of a family member. Every single person grieves differently, especially after a death in the family, and we understand that you may need time before you can even think about trying to get back to “normal.” Me In Order can help by figuring out your next step when comes to the items left behind by your loved ones.

As Expert Organizers, we can help you sort through your loved one’s items, organize the space they once lived in, and remove the burden of dealing with everything on your own. We are here to help as you deal with this death in the family.

1. Our team of Expert Organizers understand where you are coming from

We understand that this will be difficult for you, and we guarantee there will be times when you might have to pause and take a second to breathe.  We get it; and we have had many clients that have been through the same scenario. As trained experts, we know how to complete tasks efficiently while keeping your thoughts and feelings in mind after a death in the family.

While you might need to take your time, the Me In Order team will help you stay on task. We will make sure to stop when you need to, but also work to complete the long road of organizing and decluttering ahead. We will use our skills and experience to help you get through this daunting task and help you deal with the repercussions after a death in the family.

2. We will help you determine what you should keep

The Me In Order team will help you filter through your items skillfully, but also with respect and honor. We understand that each item has significance, and we won’t pressure you to throw away anything you might want to keep. However, we will remind you that things are only things. By putting value on every possession, you risk staying under the weight of clutter.

Our team will help you recognize the items you should keep while donating or throwing away items you do not need. For example, keeping 50 paper drawings that your loved one once created could take up a decent amount of space. By narrowing them down to your top 10 or 15, you can then display them in an art portfolio case. Or, you can pick your top 5, have them framed, and hung in specific rooms of your house. The idea is to pinpoint the items that bring you the best memories and incorporate them into your everyday life so you can remember the good times with your loved one.

Now, there is no possible way to keep ALL of their items; so you will need to narrow it down. What did they love to do? What was something that you two did together? Was there an inside joke that you both shared that will make you smile on an average day? The Me in Order team will use the answers to these questions to help determine exactly what you should keep and what you should toss, donate, or pass on to someone else who needs it.

3. We will help you honor your loved one’s items

We will help you honor the items you do want to keep as well as display them in a way where you can recognize their significance daily.

Our team will also help you determine how to properly display your items in remembrance of your loved one. Let’s say, your loved one had a military flag from serving in the armed forces. This item might have been stuffed into a closet for a long amount of time.

An item like this holds such significance; you don’t want to keep it hidden in a closet. The Me In Order team will help you display this item in such a way that it gives honor. For example, we could fold it, put it in a frame, and hang it in a specific room.

As a team, we can work together to narrow down the items you want to keep and decide how you want to display them. If you just want to keep everything in one box, we understand. If you want to display your items throughout your home, we get it. The goal at the end of the day is to make your space functional for you during this time as well as bring you happiness, good memories, and healthy reminders of your loved one.

As a reminder, The Me In Order team is here to help you during this difficult time after a death in the family. We know that it will take some time before you are ready, but we are here to contribute and get you back on track.

You don’t have to do this alone. Together, we can help you get through this daunting task by clearing your home and getting yourself organized. With our help, this decluttering and organization will help you close the chapter, cherish the memories with your loved one, and move on to healing.

Me In Order is here to guide you in any way you need to start your organizing project. If you are interested in learning more about how to hire an expert organizer, check out our Ultimate Guide To Hiring An Expert Organizer , or contact us today!

Are you hiring? I have an infinity for nostalgia and have done a pretty good job over the years of dealing my late loved one’s belongings and deciding what’s important to keep. I believe going through a loved one’s things is a sacred process. I live in St. Louis MO and would like to help others.
