Whether it be cooking, painting, exercising, or organizing, we always look to the experts for the best step-by-step to accomplishing our goals.
We initiate the use of Pinterest to find the best recipes and stumble upon a Martha Stuart tutorial; next thing you know, we have the perfect carrot cake. We scroll through YouTube videos to find the best at-home exercising routines and practice wall squats and lunges; copy and paste from the muscle-experts. No matter what we do, we will always turn to the trusted professionals to find the best way to tackle a task or create something new.
At Me In Order, we recognize that starting a strenuous task like organizing your home can be daunting. That’s why we’ve trained the best-of-the-best to help you along your organizing journey.
Joanne Duchrow has been a Certified Expert Organizer® with Me In Order for years and recognizes that sometimes people need a few tips and tricks to accomplishing their organizing goals.
Joanne is a happy mom of 2 wonderful children that keep her very busy. Prior to joining Me In Order, Joanne would find herself organizing her house and especially her daughter’s room which was always a challenge. She has always had a heart for helping others and enjoys talking and listening to people about their needs. After hearing some speakers talk about, “following your passion” Joanne realized her love for organizing can be more than just a hobby, but a way of serving others and help improve their lives.
Joanne understands first-hand the challenges that come with being a busy mom and is ready to help tackle the biggest challenges of keeping your home organized.
Here are her expert strategies for organizing:
Q1) Describe your strategy for organizing.
Joanne: My strategy is to pull everything out and sort the items into separate piles of keep, donate, and trash. Once I see what is left, whether it is a little or a lot, I can come up with a plan to put things back where space will function at its best.
Q2) What is your plan when you first start a project with a new client?
Joanne: When I start a session with a new organizing client, it is important to know their goals and what they want their end project to be. Some people have specific ideas, and others don’t have a preference and want me to decide for them. Either way, I will always give my ideas and suggestions also. But taking the time to find out what my client has in mind is very important to the end goal.
Q3) What is your go-to item to use when organizing?
Joanne: My go-to item is my measuring tape! There are hundreds of containers on the market, but the most important thing is to get the right container that fits your space the best.
Q4) What do you believe goes into an effective organizing plan?
Joanne: I believe organizing is more effective when everyone in the household understands where their items are located. One of the best ways to do this is by labeling bins and containers so everyone knows where everything is and most importantly, they know where they can put it back!
Q5) How do you take care of yourself and your personal clutter? How do you keep yourself organized?
Joanne: I have a home for everything and everything is labeled. If I am out shopping and I see something I like, I stop and think if I have a place for it. Or is there room in my closet? The key is to not overbuy but to only have things in your home that you really love.
