How does bathroom organizing sound?
If you could pick any room in your house that needs deep-cleaning ASAP…odds are, it would probably be your bathroom.
I guarantee your stomach is turning just thinking about the amount of germs, hair, dirt and grime that lies within every crevice of your household bathroom. We get it…your bathroom needs help and we’re here to give it to you!
Our new blog series What To Get Rid Of Now offers our readers helping tips and tricks to tackling your house room-by-room. With the holidays quickly approaching, we know your house will be jam packed with families, friends and neighbors; so make sure your bathroom shines! Here are a few notes on what you can get rid of right now in your bathroom:
1.) Expired Medicine
Sometimes, we tend to hold onto old medications with the thought that we may be able to use them at a later date. However, the reality is those little orange pill bottles are taking up some much needed space in your medicine cabinet. You should be aware of the expiration dates on any medication you take on a daily or weekly basis in an effort to protect your overall health. This is a number one to do when it comes to bathroom organizing. In doing so, make sure you dispose of any old medication and pay attention to expiration dates moving forward to avoid clutter (and aid your health!)
2.) Unused Makeup
Did you purchase that bright purple lipstick thinking that you would use it on a daily basis, but you actually ended up hating the color? Or, maybe you have a concealer that is slightly a shade darker than what you are used to, but you can’t toss it because it was expensive? Sometimes we have a hard time letting go of makeup products, especially if we have invested money due to the brand name.
If you feel bad about throwing away expensive makeup, then maybe consider gifting it to someone else, or passing it along to a sibling or family member that you think it might look better on. Just because you hold onto it, doesn’t mean you are getting the most out of that money you already spent!
3.) Old Cleaning Supplies
Remember that one “amazing” shower cleaner that claimed it would get rid of rust and grout? Or that special plunger that you just HAD to buy at IKEA? You used it once, didn’t notice a difference, so you stuck it in the back of your linen closet or in those dark depths under the sink.
Here is an important tip from the experts at Me In Order: don’t ever feel guilty about throwing away something you didn’t use especially during bathroom organizing. If it didn’t work for you, then toss it! Keeping unused chemicals in the house could potentially be hazardous and it adds to unnecessary clutter. Dispose of these items safely, and try to find protects that work for you and your home.
4.) Magazines
There was once a time when having a magazine rack in your bathroom was the latest thing to…uhh…pass the time spent in the bathroom (if you catch our drift!)
Toss the old, unread magazines. The longer they sit in the bathroom, the more dust and nastiness they collect. Keeping magazines in your bathroom will mildew and get wet due to the humidity from the bath or shower, so toss them out and consider an iPad or cell phone as your source of entertainment on the golden throne.
5.) Bleached Towels
We all have that one bath towel or hand towel that we can’t seem to part with. This could have been a towel that we have been using for years (gross, right?) or one that “used” to be super soft, but now is ratty and torn. Take the time to go through your inventory of towels and toss out the ones that either have bleach stains, holes, or have been used far too frequently. Most stores offer great discounts on bath towels, so consider purchasing new ones and get rid of the old one.
